How to archive/export email so it can be easily accessed?
Simple problem: I've got way too much email, and I want to archive or export or DO SOMETHING to get rid of it - but I might need in the future. What's the best method to use if I might need to find information in the old email -- archive (and if so, how do archive folders), ImportExportTool, something else?

Use the Archive function. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/archived-messages
Have exactly the same question "best method to use if I might need to find information in the old email ".
I had already read the excellent info on how to archive email, but the info lacking is what is the procedure to access/use mail stored in an archive, because that can affect the best initial structure for the archive(s).
For example, is archived mail searchable and if so, does a search look in all the archive folders present? If so, archiving in yearly folders makes sense, if not, better to archive in one big folder. Does search look at entire mail or just headings? That can also affect best setup for an archive to make it practically usable.
Also need to know how to get email out of the archive -- again, affects how and which mail should be archived.
There are such good instructions about how to get mail into an archive, that I thought there must be info somewhere about how to use/extract info from saved archives, but I couldn't find such, except hints from successful experiments people mentioned in some questions -- and that info is best to know before packing emails into an archive.
Anyone know of information source on these issues, key to deciding "best method to use if I might need to find information in the old email"
