Activity indicator?
Is there any activity indicator that shows the program interacting withe the ISP mail during send/receive??

Tools menu (alt+T) select activity manager.
Thanks for the reply but this was not quite what I was looking for. While the ALT-T Activity summary give me "what happened" I was in need of something to show the activity was actually taking place in real-time. There might be an issue with my ISP but, despite trying to update/download mail nothing happens. I now could believe that there is no mail but actually there is some problem. A real-time indicator would show that a connection was established and an interrogation cycle was completed successfully.
Right now I really do not know if I have no mail, or was there a problem.
The status-bar normally show activity, but sometimes it looks stuck. I sometimes open windows resource-viewer, mark Thunderbird and look at net-activity. That way I show only TB connections their ip, name and activity.

If you mean a small green bar in the bottom status line - yes I see that, but rarely, and not always understanding its meaning. It is very erratic. I found an ACTIVITY indicator under Customize. It is a small blue/green partial circle That I assumes it rotates during some type of activity. I tried it in the various menu areas but it never appears except in Customize mode. I even added a toolbar but it never appears during any activity.
Being insured of the communication between the ISP and Thunderbird does not seem indigenous to Thunderbird.
The "indicator" you found is also present at the top (see pic) it replaces that "green arrow pointing down into a box"
- By looking at Windows resource-viewer as I described, you can see if there are activity.
- By checking your error-console ( ctrl+shift+J ) or under Tools you can see what went wrong. Empty first or it might be a lot. Look for connection errors.
- By using webmail you can check if there are any left
Check that your firewall / virus-protection doesnt intercept.Run Windows in safe mode with network enabled.
It sounds to me like there might be an issue with an anti virus program scanning mail. Try disabling any mail scanning feature and see where that goes.
