Why can't Thunderbird display the address book on a side column when forwarding and email like outlook and complete email? Is there a way to do this?
Other email programs automatically display your address book list in a side column when forwarding emails. They offer a "click on name" function to easily populate the recipient list. Why Thunderbird can't offer this easy to use function?

You should be able to see your contacts in the contacts sidebar when you write new or forward existing emails.
