I was copying to a sub-folder within Local folders and my screen locked. When I got things back hundreds of emails had disappeared. I have found the relevant folder from the backup of my profile but cannot seem to be able to restore the individual emails.

lets see a folder called inbox is represented on disk by the file inbox and an index inbox.msf which will be regenerated if it is missing. Result is I don't think you have found your mails yet... do you?
