When I log into thunderbird, warning messages keep coming up asking me to input my password. The messages keep coming even when I put in the password. It takes a long time to download messages and almost allways blocks me sending. I have to to my providers webmail to do any work.

About 3 months ago, all messages downloaded to Thunderbird from Gmail include a page of technical background code or information that is clutter and not needed.

After running an update, when launching Thunderbird it says "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Thunderbird. Do you want to reboot now?". Rebooting does nothing, I'm prompted with the same message. Tried re-installing the latest version - it gives me the same error message before re-installying, and also un-installing the version I have on my PC - it also prompts me to restart to finish the earlier upgrade.

I can't send out my reply emails or on new ones b/c I mistakenly deleted the 'sent' option at the top. Actually all the options at the top are gone, including 'forward' etc. This is b/c I clicked with the R mouse on 2 choices there, (which I can't remember what they were called). I did this b/c the 'sent' word had gone gray and I was trying to fix the situation. My emails stopped going in the sent folder and turned up in drafts. I tried sending them from there but it came up with no send option too. Then I finally found 4 emails I was trying to send out in the 'outbox' which I never use! Eventually the computer asked if I wanted the unsent to be sent and it did work then. But I very much would like the former usual configuration to come back please for sending out emails. This is my request here. Interestingly some that went in the drafts were incomplete and did not include all my words! Strange. This is all on my Windows 11 desktop which I prefer to use. Interestingly also, my cell phone suddenly won't recognize my usual long time email address! So I can't forward photos off my cell phone to my Thunderbird (gmail) inbox now. This happened a few days ago, before today's problem. When I try, it says my email address in invalid!! And yet it is receiving the emails on gmail on the phone. But it also wouldn't let me send or even open up 'drafts' on the phone. Emails are arriving in my T-bird inbox all right on my desktop. 'T-bird is the default client on start-up'. On my desktop, my Bitdefender says my computer is 'safe' so there does not appear to be a problem there.

After many years of using TB without any problems on an older computer with Win 10 I suddenly have this confusing little hiccup. If I hit New Message, Reply or Forward a small rectangular box (about 8 x 100mm) appears with a shaded outline in the centre of the screen where the body of the email would go. There is also a black lock with a red line through it at the start of the "Subject" line of the blank email, I don't think I have seen it there before but I maybe wrong.

Clicking inside the box gives nil response except on the far right on the formerly black X that has changed to a white X with a red background when it just deletes the whole page. No amount of right or left clicking outside the box gives any response except for the "error ding sound" and the box jiggles. The box can be dragged to the edge of the screen without any change in responses.

All other email functions work normally, there are no problems with receiving, reading or deleting emails. I do not know how to find out what version of TB that I have installed. So to sum up if I hit New Message, Reply or Forward the only thing TB will let me do is delete the new blank email that I want to send (once it is completed). I have not got the foggiest idea of what to do to fix the problem.

I have just installed latest ver of Thunderbird onto HP Z_Book Win 11 Pro as way to locally save an archive 20 years of email data when Yahoo reduces acct storage to 15gig like Google. All server settings and all folder settings including local folder are st to don't delete anything. However, Thunderbird deleted 20 years of emails from inbox and folders on Yahoo Imap Server without saving to local folders or Thunderbird folders, completely defeating the whole procedure and leaving me with 20 years of record lost. Why??? What went wrong??. I have to prevent this from happening again!!! Every local Thunderbird folder is set to not delete anything as are the IMAP Acct settings in Thunderbird???

ISSUE: Every day I have to call the telecom ROGERS that took over for telecom SHAW, turn IMAP and Pop3 on 9 Email accounts (they lost 1). Sometimes the 1 to 2 hors chat w/ a human turned it back on will not last long.

DETAILS:

  1. I can receive outside Emails *because I can't send using Shaw/Rogers, checking for Email, just hangs at trying to login in to any of the 9/10 emails.
  2. When I can get a support person to check, they tell me that IMAP and POP3 are turned off.
  3. They will tell me they re-enabled it. But it doesn't enable for me.
  4. It all works OK when using the online webmail Zimbra. However, I need to check 3 of the 9 email accounts every hour, others every 6 hours, and others once a day at boot.

QUESTION: When using POP3, does the setting on my SMTP need a special setting on Thunderbird?.

NOTE: I am complying with "Rogers With Shaw" passing the buck to the Email Client (Thunderbird) by asking here - "Could It Be The Email Client'! And my answer is 'No', because Thunderbird works perfectly with 54 other Email accounts.

When I dismiss these in the reminder dialog box, they are colored Red in the Task Pane but not complete, and thus they remain in the Task Pane. Is there away to delete these Red task in mass, i.e., highlighting them and deleting them? Or is there a better way to dismiss them when they pop up so they disappear?

Since setting up Yahoo email on TB using POP3 setting, I noticed that while all my Inbox messages remain when downloaded on my PC, the Sent messages are being gradually deleted to leave only the most recent (currently) 11 messages, like it is if I log in online to Yahoo webmail. Does this mean I need to configure it to IMAP as well to make sure nothing is deleted once downloaded to TB on my PC?

Hi I have successfully linked my TB Calendar to Nextcloud. However, Tasks are not syncing.

When I go to create a task in the shared calendar TB advises: Please select a calendar that supports tasks

I understand later versions of TB now handle CAL and CARD Dav better.

Some have suggested using TBSync addon, however that appears to only support account creation for Google and MS calendars, but not Nextcloud.

Is there a setting in TB or NextCloud I am missing, or an addon ???

Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks

On 6th Feb 2026 a professional set up Thunderbird [149 I think] on my Desk top computer, running Windows 10, with 2 email addresses. Last week I found I could receive emails on both, but not send on either. I know the passwords for both the addresses, but even if I put them in when asked, I still could not send. Then I found I was not receiving e mails on either address as well. I am 87 and may have changed something important, in an effort to find a solution, as last Friday [27th March] thunderbird crashed. I sent the report to thunderbird. Yesterday I received the previous day's emails and current ones. Today [29th] I am receiving, but not able to send again, My email default is set as Thunderbird. For many years I was with Plusnet, but recently I had to transfer to Greenby. I checked their Web mail when I was not receiving emails and they were on their Server. I can make simple changes in Account Settings eg Port, Outgoing Server, Security.. Is there a simple solution or should I call the Professional again? Thank you.

I have not had problems in the past, but this time Thunderbird does not connect with the UofM server and I cannot update Thunderbird with my new password. When Thunderbird tries to connect, I get a Google "help" message about clearing my Chrome cache that does nothing. I deleted the old IMAP password in Thunderbird, but that did no good. Adding the email account to Thunderbird is no problem, TB recognizes that it is a gmail account. However, it does not automatically add the address book. I tried to add manually using the new Accounts Hub CardDav putting in the email address under UserName and putting in imap.gmail.com:993 for the URL/Hostname.
