Windows 7 Thunderbird Version 102.3.0

Thunderbird has been running for years, across dozens (hundreds?) of times I "sleep" Windows. This morning, after I "unsleeped" the system, the Thunderbird icon had vanished from the desktop. I copied the shortcut to the executable to the desktop. Thunderbird appears to be working.

What could cause that?
