"the Folder Archive is full"

I have just updated from 38.8.0

My sent messages are no longer saving. I am getting the following message:

“The folder Sent is full, and can’t hold any more messages. To make room for more messages, delete any old or unwanted mail and compact the folder" and "There was an error saving the message to Sent".

A previous solution (https://support.mozilla.org/bm/questions/1058922) suggested to Archive sent messages. When I tried this (manually), the error simply changed to "the Folder Archive is full". I was able to move one single item from Sent to Archive, but when I tried to move it back, it said the Sent folder was full! (ie, same message)

The size of the folders was not an issue until this upgrade, so I am unconvinced that it's actually about the size. I 'made room' (deleted) and then compacted the Sent messages folder but it made no difference to the error message. At that point I searched here for help, but then got the same message for the 'Archives' folder (which had zero files in it) when I tried that fix.

I changed from STARTTLS to SSL/TLS and it made no difference. This is consistent with the fact that NO SETTINGS were changed, only an upgrade occurred.

This does not seem to be an issue with the sending - as far as I am aware, all messages are transmitted. Only the msg indicates that they are not, and there is no record of the sent email.

I am running Windows 10 Home.
