Thunderbird won't fetch recent emails

I just started using Thunderbird. Because I have so many emails in my IMAP account, I set Thunderbird to synchronize the most recent 4 years, which equates to over 24,000 emails. It seemed to sync those fine, but now I'm not getting new email messages. I can see new messages if I log into webmail and I'm getting them on my iPhone, but not in Thunderbird. My email provider is GoDaddy.

(I'm trying Thunderbird because of issues with Apple's Mail app after upgrading to El Capitan...)
