Firefox 37.0.2 continually freezes and it's gotten worse since I refreshed it. Any suggestions?

It freezes when I'm checking my email(verizon), it freezes when I'm using google search, it's freezing as I type this message. Firefox is my default browser. It freezes when I'm on facebook or playing games on facebook. It has frozen more and more frequently since I tried the "refresh" option. It seemed to freeze every 5 seconds around 5:30PM EDT tonight. I don't know if it is a problem with too many users or there is something drastically wrong with version 37.0.2. The same thing (freezing or not responding) occurs on my desktop as well as my laptop and my husband's laptop. He got so tried of it, he switched to google chrome. I noticed that the freezing also got worse when I upgraded to 37.0.2. I am not enthusiastic about trying refresh again as it only made things worse. Do you have any other suggestions? My current operating system is Windows 7. I have Windows 8.1 on the desktop and my husband has Windows 8.1 on his laptop as well.

Since it is happening on more than one computer on the same network, I am thinking it may be a network/Firefox issue. What I mean by this is that even though you refresh, with a clear cache it still performs slowly.
