I couldn't remember if I ever asked a question or not. Thus I asked it to send me my user name. The GUI said a message was sent to my email, but no message ever arrived. In the end I didn't have an account. Still this looks like a bug to me. Instead of sending a message that I am not known, it sent nothing at all - in spite of the fact that it said an email was sent.

I agree. This used to work even better and tell you on the spot if your email address was registered on this site. But that was changed to the current "send a email to any entered email" system. I personally miss the old way.

It is done this way so that hackers and spammers can not trick the system by entering many kinds of random emails and wait to see if they get a "This email address exists" confirmation. So for security purposes, all email addresses entered there are treated as real even if there's no matching account with that email.

I'll tell our site developers about this issue and make sure we are sending out emails properly on that page. Especially to email addresses that have no accounts.

Such e-mail is always sent to the address on file with the web site.

You hit on the problem. I don't know if I am a user or not. As it turns out I wasn't a user. I enter my email and ask it to forward my user name. The dialog says a message was sent to my email. Catch-22. Since I'm not registered in the database, no email is sent, even though the dialog clearly says a message has been sent. In my opinion, that is a bug. I should get a message in my email saying I am not a member. Instead I get a big fat ZERO - no message at all. The dialog says a message has been sent and it hasn't - a bug.
