firefox is far too slow to start up
It's just that when I click on the desktop shortcut to load Firefox it takes ages for the page to come up and be usable. In contrast I.E.8 loads very quickly.

Please run a standard diagnostic. See Basic troubleshooting
Also, please visit the Plugins Check page and update where necessary. Old plugins can also influence performance detrimentally.

I've tried as per suggestions but it has not improved the start-up speed.
Maybe you have a slow starting add-on installed. See https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/performance/
I have no add-ons installed.
By the way Xircal, I do not seem to have a Firefox button on my home page.
Xircal, I've spent some time 'prodding about' and have found the add-on page/list and found that I did indeed have some add-ons so I have disabled quite a few of them and Firefox loads much quicker now. Thanks for that help. However, I still do not see a 'Firefox Button' on my home page.
