I performed a search to find a missing email. The search found the email. How can I tell what folder the email is in?

If you used 'Edit > Find > Search Messages Then you could enable the 'Location' column header to tell you folder name
If you used the Global Search then the left pane may tell you the folder But if you choose to 'show results as list' the you can enable the 'Location' column header to display folder name.
If you clicked on the email to open it in a new tab - you guessed it ...enable the 'Location' column header to display folder name.
