had a message that firefox needed an upgrade or update. after proceeding i received a message that website security was invalid, so I added an exception and after more thought I realized that exception should not have been added, so I would like to find a way to remove this exception.

If you take a look at your History, can you identify the website you do not want to trust? The full list is available in the Library dialog. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+h
  • "Show All History" on the History menu

To view the exceptions, you can use the Certificate Manager. Start on the Options page:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options

In the left column, click Advanced. On the right side, click the Certificates "mini-tab". This should take you to a panel with a View Certificates button. Go ahead and click that.

The Certificate Manager dialog has several sections. Click the Servers mini-tab.

You will see several entries where the server is marked with * instead of a normal server name. Just ignore those. The others are most likely the exceptions you have added. Can you find the unwanted one and remove it?

More generally, several users have reported getting sent to a new tab advertising a "Firefox Patch" which unfortunately is malware. If you downloaded something with a name along those lines, please see the following article for links to free cleaning tools:
