The Trash bin disappeared on one of my email accounts, so I restarted Thunderbird and it showed up but I can't delete messages. There's no error message or any sort of explanation the messages just sit in the inbox, still highlighed but not deleted.

Try to rebuild the index file of the troubled folder. Right-click the folder - Properties - Repair Folder
