Thunderbird 148+ on Windows 11 repeatedly prompts for the password when synchronizing an Exchange account (professional) configured with the native Exchange support (no add-on installed).
The account only offers “NTLM” or “Normal password” authentication methods. OAuth2 is not available in the account settings.
During synchronization, Thunderbird asks for the password separately for many folders. However, clicking “Retry” usually works immediately without changing the password, and manually re-entering the same password also works.
The issue then reappears for the next folder, causing continuous authentication prompts (I have many folders...).

This looks like an authentication/session handling issue rather than an actual invalid password.

I recently moved from Microsoft Outlook email to Apple icloud email. icloud allows you to create an application-specific password, which I did for email. It works; I can login to email on Thunderbird using my (impossible to remember long) password automatically generated by Apple. I switched the Thunderbird server settings to OAuth, but unlike with Outlook, there was no popup saying a restart of Tbird is required. When I quit Tbird and restarted, it did not prompt for a pw, but neither did it get any new messages. (I sent new messages from another email service to verify.)
I also noticed that OAuth2 was not an available option for the outgoing server, as it was with Outlook.
Does OAuth2 not work with icloud email?
There appears to be no way to change the app-specific icloud pw in Apple, but I will take that up with Apple.
Perhaps the workaround is to use the Tbird saved pw feature?

I've been trying to create and account on thunderbird with both my outlook and posteo emails but every time I click on 'create an account' it says:
Authentication error.
Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password.
It showed me the same message last year when I tried to use thunderbird for the first time, and again now that I tried again thinking it was an issue that might have been fixed since then. I double check the configuration, username and password for both me emails but it doesn't want to got through. I tried it both on my computer with the desktop version and on my android phone, and neither works.
Is there anything I could do to fix this issue?

I have spent extensive time with the google workspace admin console help. This is the final result: "Thank you for trying all the steps so far. Since Thunderbird has already been added under App Access Control in the Admin console, IMAP is enabled, and cookies/cache have been cleared, but the authentication error still persists, this points to a possible issue with the application’s client ID used by Thunderbird for OAuth. In this case, you will need to contact the Thunderbird support team to verify the correct client ID for their OAuth implementation. Once you have the correct client ID, we can then configure it properly in the Google Admin console so the authentication works successfully. We’ve confirmed that all Google Workspace settings on our side are correct, so the next step must be coordinated with Thunderbird’s team."

Hello, Previously, I had my email with Xfinity, but they stopped this service and set us to Yahoo Mail. I’ve had no luck in setting it up in Outlook, so I tried Thunderbird and encountered the same problem. I have Windows 11. I’m using the IMAP settings recommended by Yahoo. During the setup process, everything checks, but when it asks for an address, which is from Xfinity, and a password, which I’m not sure they’re asking for so I tried the Xfinity, Yahoo, and Mozilla passwords. After moving my Thunderbird profile to a new computer none of my accounts can authenticate. I followed the instructions here: Move Thunderbird data to a new computer, using "An alternative method for manual transfer between Windows 10 and Windows 11 computers." What explains the response in the attached image, "Something went wrong," and how can I fix it? Happens when I click "Next", the first step to log it.
I have a related problem with other accounts set up in the profile. This one is using Oauth2. I tried switching to password, and hand a similar problem. I tested the connection to the server in Settings for the account and it was successful. Same for the others. They all authenticate successfully on my old computer.
