I am using Thunderbird 102.9.0.

I don't know what happened, but now my default profile won't load.

I had two profiles. One was an old one I wasn't using anymore. I went into profile manager and deleted it specifying to delete the data also. That seemed to work.

However, now when I start Thunderbird I get the setup wizard asking me to enter my email address and name. I only have one profile. I looked at it and it looks fine to me. All my Imap accounts are there, my Local Folders, are there, etc.

I've tried creating a new profile and copying my old profile contents into it, but didn't work. I still get the setup wizard.

I've tried creating a new profile and copying only my ImapMail, Mail, News, TbSync folders into the new folder and that didn't work. I still get the setup wizard.

I've read through some other posts here, but nothing I've tried seems to work.

How can I get Thunderbird to load my profile. My biggest concern is I don't want to lose what is in my Local Folders as it has a lot of messages I want to keep going back years.

Thanks, Bill

I am using Thunderbird ver. 102.9.0. When i send an email, a copy naturally goes to my Sent folder. Lately, a duplicate also shows up in Trash. But the subject plus to whom sent are in bold type. I can delete these duplicates in the Trash folder.

I have looked at my account settings and nothing there appears to account for this. I would like to eliminate the creation of these duplicates. Any ideas?

Hello hi ya' doin',

Win10 64x, Thunderbird v102 32x, IMAP.

When I launch thunderbird it takes a long time for the password dialog box to open. Check mail, send mail, indexing, synchronize are sluggish and hang in the activity manager. I have to turn off thunderbird and turn it back on to try to get it to work, and even then if it looks like it's open and ready to go, "determining which messages to index" never goes away in the activity manager. This all started when I updated to v102.

So I uninstalled/reinstalled. 1. Backup profile folder. 2. Uninstall via Settings > apps > uninstall thunderbird. 3. Restart. 4. Reinstall thunderbird 102, check for updates. 5. ESET exclusions. I notice on the IMAP computers, Mozilla Thunderbird Folder is in C: Program Files and Mozilla Maintenance Folder is in C: Program Files(x86). On the POP computer both those folders are in (x86). (I don't understand why one installation is one way and the other installation is the another way. It doesn't seem to me like POP vs IMAP have anything to do how the installer installs. But I'm just a layman.) 6. Restart 7. Launch thunderbird and it opened up with all the IMAP and Local folders. I didn't even need the backed up profiles folder.

It was at least 100% better but still never turned off the "determining which messages to index" thermometer in activity manager. That thermometer is always there stuck at full. That was day before yesterday. Now today when I launch thunderbird it hangs when checking mail and gets stuck trying to bring current the sends/receives/moves/deletes I've done on the iphone. It reaches a point and gets stuck. I turn thunderbird off and back on and it reaches another point and gets stuck. Maybe I should re install again but this time ShiftRightClick the installer and Run as Administrator?

After updating my 2017 iMac from OS Catalina to Ventura (13.2), TB 102.8.0 is taking more than a minute to open. Once open it seems fine, so far, but that startup time is way longer than it used to be. I used Troubleshoot mode to 1) send myself a troubleshoot report via email and 2) clear the starting cache, but that didn't fix the long start-up time. My email accounts are with my website's hosting company, but hosting says things are fine on their end. Please advise on what can be done in TB to address this, thanks.

Running Tbird 102.8.0 (64bit) on Linux Mint 21.1 Since the previous Tbird update, more Sent folders are appearing. I am running unified folders and when I start Tbird in troubleshooting mode the Sent folders don't appear. I have my unified Sent folder, then a second folder appeared under that one labeled Sent - Local Folders. Then a second Sent Local Folders appeared with a Sent folder inside it, Today a third Sent Local Folders has appeared. I now have 4 Sent folders under my main Sent folder! I have 7 pop3 email accounts and when I send an email from any of them, the sent emails show up in the first Sent - Local Folders folder. When I generate the troubleshooting file there are 8 accounts listed as account 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. Account 2 shows as (none) Local Folders with security as 0. The other 7 show the correct pop3 names and ports. I have added 2 screen shots, the one without the extra folders is the troubleshooting run. When I right click on the extra folders, there is no delete option. No crash reports and no error messages in the troubleshooting file. I have tried turning unified folders on & off several times.

Since the 2/8 upgrade of Thunderbird the program repeatedly is becoming unresponsive. It can take a long time after starting the program before anything can be done. I have long delays and repeated "Thunderbird is not responding" messages when doing things as simple as clicking on a tab. It eventually responds if I don't force quit.

I've been using Thunderbird on Linux for years and have not had this problem before. The unresponsive issue is not a problem with any other program including Firefox.

I have zero add-ons loaded. The problem continues when I select "Work Offline".

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello, after I tried sending a message with a zip attachment to someone, I now keep getting this error message every time I open TB or every time I send a new message. There is nothing in my outboxes and I can't even find the original message with the zip attachment anymore. I have tried removing the account I sent that message from but I keep getting the same error message. I also used Send Later, but removing that also didn't solve the issue. Do you have nay pointers?

Hello. For the last week or so, Thunderbird has become unusable for me. Shortly after doing anything, such as clicking on a message, it hangs and I can get nothing else done. If I go to another window, and then back to thunderbird, it redraws the window frame, but with transparent window contents (the underlying screen is visible). My "top" linux command shows that thunderbird is eating 100% CPU (on only one thread of the multithreaded 12th Gen core i7).

I've looked at the Activity Manager before the freezing, and nothing untoward is reported. After the freeze, Activity just opens as another transparent window, so I don't know if anything is happening.

I tried resetting the global index as was suggested in another post here. It indexed all my boxes without any error but was not changed afterwards.

I'd really appreciate suggestions here. I'm not aware of having done anything such as a change of settings, so it has me beaten at the moment. I've been using Thunderbird for years without seeing this before.

Kenneth.

Thunderbird (now 102.9.0) regularly freezes but doesn't crash for me on Windows 10 and 11. Substantially the same behavior occurs whether I'm in troubleshooting mode or have addons enabled.

In Thunderbird, I have 3 mail accounts, and all 3 are IMAP accounts. From the status bar notifications, it seems a large part of Thunderbird's slowness arises because opening a new IMAP folder causes Thunderbird to authenticate to the mail service and check for new messages in that folder.

I already have Thunderbird downloading all of the mail in the IMAP folders subscribed to in each account. So, is there a way to prevent the "recheck for new messages in a folder when opening that folder" behavior and, e.g., only check for new messages on the schedule in each account's settings, by doing "Get Messages," etc.?

Thunderbird is about as responsive as I would expect when I'm working in offline mode. So, I suppose I could open Thunderbird, allow it to sync up to the IMAP accounts, then go offline to work on the messages that came in, then go back online to sync what I've done to the server. But I suppose I'm hoping to avoid that online state toggling if there's a way of doing so.

Thank you so much for your thoughts!

With upgrade from 102.8 to 102.9, a new problem with connection to MS exchange enterprise server has arisen. The server will now not let me send mail through the SMTP connection. I can receive mail without a problem. My university uses 2fa (DUO push). The connection that has worked in the past uses smtp.office365.com, port 587, STARTTLS, and OAuth2. When I try to send now, I get this error dialog: "Login to server smtp.office365.com with username xxx@xxx.edu failed." [I've redacted that username]. When I choose "Enter New Password", no authentication dialog boxes come up. It just times out with the same error dialog. I'm not getting a 2fa push notice either. Any ideas on what to do next? Thanks.

Thunderbird 102.9.0 Windows 10 I guess I have a "failed" message stuck in Thunderbird on my work computer from months ago. Error message box pops up probably every couple days, then for a few days in a row, then not for a few days. When it comes up there are normally 3 or 4 instances, have to close each one.

Picture of error message attached.

When the error box pops up it prevents the sent and inbox folders from syncing - I don't think it stops messages from sending (I use the Send Later add-on regularly) - which means when I go to look at my emails on my phone or home computer the folders will not refresh till I get back to my work computer and clear the error.

Last emailed this person back in November (11 emails sent total) and had this message once around that time, called him and he confirmed email came through.

Appreciate any suggestions.

After many years of proper work my Thunderbird crashed completely and left me with a start-up screen for a complete new installation. Restart of Thunderbird or the pc didn't help to solve the problem.

I entered my credentials (Name, E-mail-address and password and I succeded getting all mails lying on the mailserver downloaded (around 1500 mails from February 9th to March 20). I am also able to send e-mails.

But I have lost contact to all my e-mails before this date which, besides my ordinary inbox and sent-box counts archives going 12 years back.

How do I connect my new setup with all the folders from the old configuration. Looking in %appdata%\tThunderbird, I can see they are lying there, but how do I connect to them? It seems that the new profile has already got in contact with my address book, (so far so good). But there seems to be no contact to everything else.

I use POP3

Can you provide me with the necessary knowledge to reestablish the situation, please?

Looking forward

Johannes

Previous to the current Thunderbird update(s) (v 102.9.0), I was able to use an add on like Google Calendar Plugin or similar to access my Google Calendar through Thunderbird.

Now, when selecting any such add on, the Google Workspace page appears, offering two options, "Get Started" or "Sign In".

As I already have an account and a Google Calendar, selecting Sign In redirects to a blank "page" where previously I would expect to find the Google Sign In.

I also tried Get Started, same result, blank page.

What can I do to continue to access my Google Calendar through Thunderbird?

I also tried Lightning, but it's subpar in comparison and, if that's the solution I would just as soon scuttle the further use of Thunderbird.

Hi, I have two e-mail both are sent with Gmail (Google Workspace) one was sent with the multi-send feature the other was sent in the normal mode. The content of both e-mails should be the same. An inline image and some text.

The mails sent in multi-send mode don't show the image inline - but as attachment in Thunderbird. (see images)
