I am running Windows XP. When I try to delete or rename these multiple icons on my desktop, I receive the message : "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk." Please help.

You don't have to download anything. I had the same problem. Run the Desktop cleanup wizard. Select the icons (they should be there). Run the cleanup and they should be in a file on your desktop labelled "Unused icons". Then delete the file.
