Firefox repeatedly crashes when attempting to play video or audio files of whatever type, in every web page. I.e., just opening a YouTube page without playing the video is fine, but when I click on Play, it instantly crashes. UPDATE: it seems like I can't even print a page to PDF, as soon as I select the Print option, the tab crashes; here are other two crash reports concerning this issue:

What Linux (32-bit or 64-bit) OS are you running as I'm not familiar with the OS reported in the crash reports.

There are no symbols available for the Firefox version you use, so there is not possible to determine what the crashes are about.

The reports show:

You can try Firefox from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution to see if it behaves differently. You can either use the current 102.12.0 ESR version or the current 114.0 release with a new profile.

Hi cor-el, and thanks for your help, I stated before that I currently use AntiX Linux 22 32-bit, which is the latest version of AntiX, available here: https://antixlinux.com/download/

I'm forced to use this lightweight distro as the machine is quite old and powerless, as you can see from the stats posted before; the distro itself is based on the Stable branch of the current Debian version (Debian 11 Bullseye), I just ran apt update and all packages are up to date; Firefox version is 102.11.0esr (32 bit) which comes preinstalled with the OS and gets its updates via the distro's repositories (it uses the Debian Bullseye repos and MX Linux's repo).

Taking a look at Firefox 102.11.0esr requirement's psge, here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/102.11.0/system-requirements/ under the Windows secion, it seems like a requirement is to have SSE2 instructions on the CPU, which my CPU doesn't; probably the same requirement applies also for Linux and if this is the case, I'm done for; but under the Linux section the following is stated:

   Firefox will not run at all without the following libraries or packages:
       glibc 2.17 or higher
       GTK+ 3.14 or higher
       libdbus-glib 0.6.0 or higher
       libglib 2.42 or higher
       libstdc++ 4.8.1 or higher
       libxtst 1.2.3 or higher
       X.Org 1.0 or higher (1.7 or higher is recommended)
   For optimal functionality, we recommend the following libraries or packages:
       DBus 1.0 or higher
       NetworkManager 0.7 or higher
       PulseAudio

So I'm gonna try and check via 'apt list --installed' if all the required packages are installed and up to date, if they are not, I'm gonna install them; do you think it's a smart move to attempt? Or should I try to directly install one of the Firefox versions you mentioned before?

SSE2 is under the Recommended Hardware, so this is not mandatory. To be able to tell more you would have to install a Firefox version from the Mozilla server like I wrote above as there is no cross reference data available for your build (everything is red if you inspect a crash report, indicating that symbols are missing).

I'm gonna follow your advice, and install Firefox directly from Mozilla site, after removal of the current version.

I'll keep you updated with new crash reports if it crashes again, and if it doesn't, I'll let you know.

tried doing what you suggested and I downloaded Firefox 114 directly from the Firefox download page, but when running it as per instructions given on the site (after moving to the correct folder, and creating symlink to the binary file) it gives me out this error (in the terminal window I used to launch it):

This browser version requires a processor with the SSE2 instruction set extension. You may be able to obtain a version that does not require SSE2 from your Linux distribution.

Then I started googling " firefox SSE2 instructions" and it emerged that the last version that does not require SSE2 instructions is Firefox 52 ESR, released in March 2017, as opposed to what you said (SSE2 is under Recommended hardware, thus not being mandatory); other people experienced random crashes on AMD Athlon computers similar to mine, so I deduct there is nothing else to do about it, if I'm not mistaken.

If there's not another solution you are aware of, I think this PC is headed to the scrap yard real soon...
