Firefox says plug-in Adobe Reader 11 out-of-date. Not true. Supposed "new" plug-in Reader DC doesn't allow user to shut off auto-updating and is memory hog.

Bottom line for you at Firefox: Firefox should treat Adobe Reader 11 and Adobe Reader DC as two separate products.

Detail: Although the latter is stated to be an update of the former, it differs significantly in mode of operation because it REQUIRES continuous automatic updating of itself. Great for some users, inconvenient memory hog for others. There is no user control of when updates are applied, unlike all other prior "versions" of Reader.

Lets see if I can give a fuller reply. (Although I do not actually use that software myself.)

I do note if I visit my locale's Adobe site I seem to get offered an Adobe Reader DC not an Adobe Reader 11 That may lead me to think that Adobe may expect us to be using Reader DC and maybe Adobe is only supporting and updating that. However when I check Adobe's security bulletins I see several types of Reader mentioned e.g. https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/acrobat/apsb16-09.html including Reader XI v11.0.15

Can you say exactly what adobe reader/acrobat product and full version number you are using ? Is there a newer version of the product ? (other than DC .)

I presume the report of it being outdated is from Firefox's plugincheck page. Is that correct ?

(Some other versions have a different block e.g.) I am aware the plugincheck does not always give optimal results. I am wondering whether this is an instance where it may be wrong.

Use of any plugin with Firefox may cease soon, with all except FlashPlayer being planned to be phased out by the year end.
