Using Thunderbird 31.7.0 with Lightning add on. Repeating tasks, I can't delete the whole series, only one at a time. Want to remove whole task, all repetitions

I have a number or repeating events with no end date, ie forever as the end. When I open the event, it does not come up with the option "just this event" or "all occurrences" (my wording). I am left with a single repetition of the event open before me. If I then click the delete option on that event, it deletes. However, it comes back again the next time it was meant to repeat. I no longer need the event at all, I want to delete all occurrences, I am done with this task.

I have found that sometimes you delay the first one until you have three of them listed in your task list, and if you open the bottom one, it will give you the option of "just this occurrence" or "all occurrences". Then I can kill the whole thing. But I have a bunch of them that even with six in the list, I cannot get the option to delete all occurrences.

I will update to the new version of Thunderbird in moments after sending this, but this problem has been around for quite a while through several version, so I doubt it has been solved in the update. Hopefully I am wrong.

Thanks.

A follow up. Updating to Thunderbird 38.0.1 and then to Lightening 4.0.0.1 did not solve the problem.

Let me word the problem in a different way. I set up a repeating task in the past, with a customized repetition, and no end date. Fine, it keeps repeating at the set times. Now I want to change either the wording of the task, or the repetition, or I want to delete all recurrences of the task. It won't offer me the option, open this occurence or open all occurences - it simply opens that one reccurence. That is part of the problem.

Now another angle on it. When the one occurrence is open, I can't change the "end date" of the occurence from "forever" - I am not even allowed to make changes in that section, it won't respond. How can I change that date? If I could change the end date, the task would self destruct at that date.

Hopefully someone has a solution. In the meantime I have a bunch of these unwanted tasks clogging my task list. At the same time I have others that WILL let me change the wording, the end date and the occurence. What gives? Thanks.
