thunderbird stalls on win 8.1
I'm running Win 8.1 and T'bird 24.4
T'bird stalls on every activity...accessing new mail, deleting/moving/sending messages, even opening new mail. The stall usually lasts for 30 seconds at a time.
I have reinstalled the program, removed the anti-virus mail scanning, and compacted my mailboxes. nothing seems to help. any ideas?

What is your anti-virus software?
the latest McAfee security centre.
that appears to speed things up. will test it for a few hours and see.
