Every time I try to go online, firefox tells me that i no longer am protected from attacks and i am to download new version. I have down so at least 15x and every time i am asked AGAIN to download.

Either you have both Firefox 3,5,12 and 5.0 installed or your useragent in stuck to 3.5.12 version when starting Firefox 5.0 exe.

If you only have 5.0 installed then

Check the general.useragent prefs on the about:config page.
You can open the about:config page via the location bar, just like you open a website.

Filter: general.useragent

If any general.useragent prefs are bold (user set) then right-click that pref and choose Reset.
