Here's my problem.

When I load firefox, 3 to 4 times in a row it will open, and then simply vanish in less than 5 seconds. Then the next time I try to open it - It works. WTF?

It won't even give me a Crash screen, It just vanishes.

Sometimes even, It just hangs at the homepage, to which I have to C.A.D. it.

This is happening all the time and its really getting annoying. I open a page, it crashes, repeat, repeat, repeat, and then success.

I am running a freshly installed Windows XP home 32bit, with all drivers and updates installed, blah blah blah...

Using Firefox 4.0.1

Things i have tried:

Opening multiple Firefox windows at once from the desktop, and regardless of how many, it crashes.

Changed my home page to alternative sites ( Google, Youtube, Hotmail etc.)

Made sure firfox was up to date, including all add-ons.

Tried disabling addons

Tried running firefox in safemode.

Tried running firefox in safemode, with add-ons disabled.

Re-installing firefox, with and without updates.

Tried it on a friends computer, clean install without add-ons and it worked.

Hitting my computer ( lol, j/k )

Im quite fed up with this. I've never had this problem with any versions previous to 4. Yes, that means V4 did this to me as well.

The times I can get Firefox started, I have no problems at all, Its smooth sailing.

Everything else on my computer works great, so I'm sure it is just firefox.

Anyone have any ideas?

Firefox is likely to be hanging rather than crashing, which explains why you get no crash reports.

The problem is likely to reside in your profile which is why reinstalls and safe mode do not help, but using a friends computer's Firefox works.
(using a new clean profile would also be expected to work but may not be the simplest thing for you to do
- and you could loose access to some data)

The "CAD" approach in XP will start task Manager that may be used to kill the process that is a one off solution to "Firefox is already running but is not responding" error - How to fix you will need to follow up to figure out why it is hanging repeatedly.

Follow the links I have posted, and further links in those articles if necessary, the articles should explain the problem and how to resolve it better that I could. Post back with how you get on.

If it turns out it is crashing you will need to look at Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) and follow up for a crash signature.

Good luck.
