How to move Thunderbird 140 from Windows 10 to Windows 11 computer
How can I move Thunderbird 140 from Windows 10 to Windows 11 computer? The latest Thunderbird download is 143. But it doesn't recognize my copied profiles, in folders /Local and /Roaming. I have edited the profiles.ini to only see the one profile that I copied.
I migrated from Win10 (v140 ESR 32-bit) to Win11 (v143 64-bit). I copied both /Local and /Roaming folders. Thunderbird keeps showing “Account Setup.” profiles.ini contains two [Install...] blocks and I already removed them.
Can you help reset the install hash or rebuild the installs.ini file live with me? — that was a suggestion from a tech at JustAnswer.com
Thank you.

Here is the link for moving a profile in Windows when installed in default location:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer
here is the info in brief steps:
- ensure thunderbird is NOT running on old machine
- enter %appdata% in search window on task bar and press Enter key
- this should open windows file explorer in Appdata\roaming folder
- highlight the Thunderbird folder and copy to external media
- ensure thunderbird is installed on second computer, started once and NOT running
- enter %appdata% in search window on task bar and press Enter key
- you should be in Appdata\roaming folder , copy&paste the exported Thunderbird folder there. This may prompt to overwrite an existing folder of same name. allow it
- start thunderbird and all should be there
Thank you for the reply. These are the steps that I have taken, multiple times. The install version that I can download to the destination computer is version 143, but the source computer has version 140.4.
When I open Thunderbird on the destination computer, it says "You have launched an older version of Thunderbird". Even when I downloaded the 140.4esr version, it still doesn't work. It keeps creating a new profile folder, but not opening the existing profile. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
