Adding recipient is slow when creating a New Message (win10)
When starting a New Message I start typing the recipients name, but Thunderbird stops at the first letter of the name and takes about 20 seconds to respond before bringing up a list of correspondents.

Try this:
- go to TB menu > Settings > General
- scroll all the way down and click the 'Config editor' button on the right
- click 'Accept the risk and continue'
- search for accessibility.force_disabled > change the value to 1 > click the check mark
- restart TB
It is a bit quicker in finding the name, but it's not as instantaneous as it used to be. Thanks for the advice.
That link doesn't work. I'm in the UK.
Exactly the same. I should have mentioned before that the program takes a good 5 minutes to load the inbox after starting up. Thanks again.

A few things to try. Do one at a time and test:
Clear cache: - press Ctrl-Shift-Delete - set 'Time range...' to 'Everything' - untick all items except 'Cache' - clear, then restart TB
Rename a program file: - TB menu > Help > Troubleshooting Information - under the Application Basics section next to Profile Folder, click 'Open Folder' - close TB - rename addonStartup.json.lz4 to addonStartup.json.lzx - restart TB
Change proxy settings: - TB menu > search for proxy > click 'Settings' button > try the other settings
Disable hardware acceleration: - TB menu > Settings > General > scroll all the way down and disable hardware acceleration
Apologies for delay, have tried all of these and the problem remains. Thanks for your help.

Try a new profile.
I would not expect cache to be a factor here. If Troubleshoot mode did not help, then we should expect something address book related.
Disable addressing matches by unchecking the composition settings seen in the screen shot. What are your results?

I just noticed this.
So if you indulge us to reconfirm this effect, please change it back to 0 - does the performance gets worse?
Also, what are the total number of contacts in your address books? Are any of them carddav or ldap?
