thunderbird mobile: import secret key - decrypt w/ NFC smartcard gives "intitialization failed"

Hello all, thank you for thunderbird! I have a fully functional thunderbird desktop installation w/ gpg smartcard support. When I want to decrypt the same encrypted eMail on thunderbird mobile I get an "initialization failed" while presenting the NFC smartcard to the mobile phone. What am I missing? Thanks in advance!
