switching computers and switching from portable to regular Thunderbird
I have been using Thunderbird portable on my old (Windows 10) computer for years. I have a new computer (Windows 11) and would like to bring my Thunderbird profile and history to the new computer. I have followed the directions in 'how to move Thunderbird to a new computer', but having pasted my Thunderbird profile etc folder into the designated folder (3 levels up from the profile folder that opened when I went to Troubleshoot options and selected open profile folder), when I open Thunderbird again on the new computer there is nothing there - just an empty inbox. I also wasn't prompted to replace anything (current data). Is it because I am doing 2 things - switching from the portable version to the regular app, as well as switching computers? How can I get up and running on the new computer? Any help, suggestions welcome.

On the portable, the profile is probably in the Data folder, named Profile. You can verify the profile by clicking it in Windows File Explorer. There, you should see the abook.sqlite file and an imapmail folder, a mail folder, among other. Seeing those confirms that you have located the folder. To use that on a desktop, - copy that profile folder to external media - be sure you install thunderbird from thunderbird.net - start thunderbird and click tools>import>import from another thunderbird installation - on next screen, click 'choose a profile folder' - select the one from the profile folder and you're done. You may need to reenter password for account.
Thank you - that was helpful, and worked to get my profile and my email archives into Thunderbird on the new computer. I'm now having a problem getting my protonmail account to work, but that might be more of a protonmail issue than Thunderbird.
