I opened Thunderbird and only new messages since I last closed it are visible. All read messages in all folders are either hidden are gone. I can't tell which. This is not just in the inbox, but all subfolders. I tried choosing "repair folder" from the properties of the folder, and no effect. In View>Threads, the setting is "all". I have no idea what to try next. Thanks.

I did check junk and trash. They're empty too. My Sent folder and subfolders are also empty.

A temporary workaround I found is to select Threads Unread from View>Threads, and then open View>Threads again and choose All. This makes the read mail show, but the read mail vanished again when the filter is used or switching folder, si it has to be done each time I look at a folder. Choosing other options in View>Threads didn't have an effect.
