I have a gmail account I had set up in Thunderbird in 2020 or something. It is a Google Apps set up (with my own domain) I did back when it was called google apps. It was working great, but recently, probably starting this year (2024), I am noticing some recipients don't get my mail.

They don't get my messages, I don't get any errors or failure responses. The messages are in my Gmail WEB app Sent folder, all looks like it was sent successfully, but it just doesn't get delivered.

When send the same message from Gmail web app, it gets delivered fine.

Any ideas or suggestions on further investigation are appreciated.

Thanks. Here are some further findings.

It turned out that my domain doesn't have any of SPF/DKIM/DMARC set up.

When comparing the gmail and thunderbird messages, the former has message id if xxxxx@mail.gmail.com, but the latter - xxxxx@mydomain.com. Maybe that somehow affect deliverability...

Anyway, I'll need to set up the missing auth and see if it fixes the issue.

From your post, Thunderbird is successfully sending the message, and it is only some recipients who don't receive it. It may help you to figure which domains are being affected as that may give feedback. I suggest comparing the actual content from a Thunderbird email to the actual content of a message sent from web app. It may be that you have an advertisement from antivirus program being included that is causing rejection.

I regularly see email rejected due to SPF/DKIM problems, so fixing that will definitely help.

I've set everyting up. Thing seem to have improved. One of the recipients in the subject is now receiving my messages.
