Homepage still defaults to Firefox after entering a different option

I’m not a fan of Firefox’s homepage when you add a tab. The shortcuts generated aren’t site I’d like to be suggested and the other categories are clumsy to me. The jump back in feature is confusing to use and it was irritating that this homepage keeps popping up.

After being annoyed for years I finally bothered to “customize the homepage”. I’m happy to learn we can turn off the ‘bring to homepage after 4 hours feature’ but since I never liked the Firefox homepage I just opted to have it tab remain on the previously viewed website.

But I would like to change my homepage to my favorite news site so I selected that option and entered the url.

It does not work though and I keep getting brought to Firefox’s homepage even though the other is selected.

Any ideas?
