Why does Thunderbird silently change folders to Threaded view?

I have used Thunderbird for years and recently it has started arbitrarily changing folders to threaded view.

The process of using mailnews.default_view_flags for new folders is ok, until Thunderbird randomly changes them back to threaded view. The process of column header on the far right to change a folder back to threaded view works for a while, until Thunderbird randomly changes them back to threaded view. The process of using shift select and then the column header on the far right to change folders back to threaded view works for a while, until Thunderbird randomly changes them back to threaded view.

The question is two fold: 1) Why does Thunderbird arbitrarily change folders to threaded view? 2) How can Thunderbird be stopped from arbitrarily changing folders to threaded view?

You pose your question under the premise that there is a problem with random changes to threading, but no one has reported that. So, no one can answer your questions, since they presume agreement that a problem exists.

I agree - there is DEFINITELY a problem with threading. I have had exactly the same experiences as you and ask exactly the same questions -

1) Why does Thunderbird arbitrarily change folders to threaded view? 2) How can Thunderbird be stopped from arbitrarily changing folders to threaded view?

I don't see all the problems posted here, but there have been only a couple (including yours), that state random changing of threaded status. It may be a bug, but I haven't seen it. (I have seen *many* complaints on default threading - lots of them - but not on this.) You're certainly free to post a bug report at this URL: bugzilla dot mozilla dot org - but developers can't fix it if it can't be duplicated.
