Are you based in China? I believe that content blocking add-ons are not permitted in that jurisdiction due to local legislation.

You are right. That is indeed what had happened. The usual place I install apps from had installed a Chinese-modified version so I downloaded the Firefox .apk from the github instead. Thanks for the help.
