Hello,

This help request is related to the policy change that Google announced regarding apps with "less secure access"; I'm looking for a way to preserve my access to Thunderbird on May 30 and thereafter. I had a hard time getting an answer on Google's forums, so I thought I'd come here.

I've been very happy with Thunderbird and would like to keep using it; in fact, due to the age of my computer, Thunderbird is my only option for accessing e-mail on that device. However, since my computer is old, I don't think the fix will be as simple as updating Thunderbird to the latest version. Is there some other workaround I can try, or an intermediate version I can install that has the required security features? If necessary, I'd be happy to share further details regarding my OS and the version of Thunderbird that I'm using.

Thank you!

OSX 10.11 (the forum reports you posting with that) is supported by Thunderbird 78. https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/78.0/system-requirements/

There have been no google changes I am aware of that would make that platform not function that I am aware of.

V78.9.1 (the last of the v78 series) can be downloaded here. http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/78.9.1/mac/ Double click a language to select a download DMG.

Hello Matt,

I apologize for not getting back to you until now; I didn't receive an e-mail stating that a reply had come in on this thread.

Unfortunately, the computer that I'm using now is not the one on which I need to preserve my access to Gmail. This means that Thunderbird 78 is not an option for my specific situation. I am about to post another question with details regarding a problem that has arisen as I try to set up OAuth2 on an intermediate version of TB.

In any case, thank you very much for your advice!
