Firefox 64 doubling CPU temps with heavy CPU load

CPU temps jump briefly from 33 C to 65 C , with attendant heavy processor load. Temps usually jump when a new web page is loaded, but occasionally jump when the browser is idle.

I am on the latest snapshot of the openSUSE Tumbleweed rolling distro (20190209), with Firefox 64. The problem started several snapshots ago (after mid-January).

The problem occurs in profiles with and without extensions.

I tried the troubleshooting steps at:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-uses-too-many-cpu-resources-how-fix

Any troubleshooting ideas will be appreciated. I'm now using another browser, but would prefer to return to Firefox.
