Mails in my directory "SBM" didn't show up. "repaire" the directory did not work.
Mails in my directory "SBM" didn't show up. In directory "INBOX.std" "SBM" and "SBM.msf" were there. In "SBM" file I could see all emails with an editor. I closed the editor and "repaired" the directory as suggested in forums, now "SBM" file vanished, mails are still not shown.

re :"repaired" the directory as suggested in forums,
What did you do exactly as there is more than one method?
Is this an imap mail account ? If yes, have you subscribed to see that SBM folder ? Check it is subscribed:
- right click on mail account in folder Pane and select 'Subscribe'
- select/ highlight 'SBM' folder
- click on 'Subscribe'
- click on 'OK'
If not visible in list try clicking on 'refresh' to see if it appears.
Did this work?
Thanks for the quick reply. I executed your steps, but unfortunately without any success. Yes it is imap and every folder is subscribed. I did a right click on that folder, selected properties and general information tab and then pressed the repair button.
Imap accounts show a copy of what is on the server. The folders are in effect one and the same. If you logon to your webmail account via a browser, do you see emails in the SBM folder?
Q: Did you do repairing whilst in 'offline' mode to stop any synchronising with server?
Q: Did you check to see what was stored on the server before 'repairing' the folder? You would not want Thunderbird to synchronise with server, if server SBM folder was empty and you're only copy was currently in Thunderbird profile folders.
re :In directory "INBOX.std" "SBM" and "SBM.msf" were there. In "SBM" file I could see all emails with an editor.
Q: As you appeared to have a good file even though emails were not showing in Thunderbird, did you make a backup copy of the 'SBM' mbox file before 'repairing' ?
SBM folder was empty in mail account via browser. Because synchronize is always on.
Yes I repaired in offline mode. Before repairing server folder SBM was empty. Unfortunately I did not make a backup because I could not imagine that repair is chewing up mails.
I have a backup from a couple of weeks ago.
Repair does not do anything other than check was is actually there and create a new index file to show it. It does not alter the mbox file. The mbox file is populated after looking on server.
re :I have a backup from a couple of weeks ago. Suggest you create suitable folder in 'Local Folders' mail account and import emails into that folder from the backup mbox file. You could use this addon extension to import the mbox files.
You could then try to use right click on highlighted emails in 'Local Folders' mail account and use 'Copy-to' to put them back into the imap folder. Try one email first and synchronise folder. Check webmail account to see it is on server. Remember to refresh the webpage. if ok then do it in small batches to get copies back on server.
