For some reason, starting about 10 days ago, I can no longer paste links into Facebook comment fields. I can paste text; but when I copy a link and try and paste it, nothing happens; it's as though I never copied the link.

I've followed the suggestions in this thread: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1006323#answer-660703

1 - reloaded from the server 2 - cleared cookies 3 - disabled all extensions and restarted in safe mode

Nothing has helped.

I *can*, however, paste when I'm using Chrome, so it's almost certainly a Firefox issue (as compared to a Facebook problem).

Any suggestions/fixes will be most appreciated!

If nothing is working then I would suspect a script that Facebook runs on those pages and that block some key presses.

http://www.dennisplucinik.com/blog/2011/02/04/how-to-install-run-multiple-firefox-versions-in-windows-simultaneously/ There's different ways to do it, but here is one.

For the just one thing, I don't understand your problem of icons. Look at my desk, and tell me if there is what you need on it http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=699147Gnarrrk.jpg

Hi Gnarrk,

Here are two pix -- the first is how my library *used* to look (although, it's not actually my library, but a stock photo). Notice how there are "folders" as icons before each top level of the bookmarks/library?

The second pic is my actual library now - the folder icons are gone -- that's what I'm missing. I know there are toggle arrows; but I'd rather see the old bookmark/folder icons.

Never mind - a bit of google searching solved the problem :)

We're all set now ...

I've been having exactly this problem for about two months now. It replicates in safe mode, it fails using hot keys or menus to paste, I have the most recent FF installed as of about a week ago. It's not just URLs, it's anything pasted into a comment box. Pasting when creating a new post works.

This is the first mention I've found on the subject. If anyone finally finds out what's going on I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I have this problem also. Firefox 35 on Linux Mint.

Linux has a sort of text-only clipboard area, where anything you've selected w/ the mouse is stored without a keypress and can be pasted with the middle mouse button. So this is a workaround in Linux:

o Select the link, go to FB, middle-click (press down on scroll wheel if you have no middle button) to paste.
o This *may* also work in Windows, where I've seen some middle click paste behavior -- so you may try copy in Windows then use the middle mouse button to paste. If your mouse doesn't have a middle button push DOWN on the scroll wheel.
o If you are on a notebook you can *try* left/right click simultaneously but I kinda doubt it will work that way. There may be a "simulate middle click" with left/right simultaneous option in your touchpad setup.

Note that middle-click to paste is under a pref that is true by default on Linux.

There are these three Boolean middle mouse prefs:

  • middlemouse.contentLoadURL [true]
  • middlemouse.paste [true]
  • middlemouse.scrollbarPosition [true]

Hi Cor-el ... Well, it works in Chrome; not in Firefox, so I'm inclined to think it's more browser-related than Facebook-related Gnarrk, I can copy and then paste into text document I can't paste into FB ... I can copy something in FB and paste it into a text document -- so, you're right, it's definitely the "paste" function. I am unable to paste anything into FB -- I had only tried to paste links; but, you're right, I can't paste anything from a clipboard *to* a comment field. If I copy something, try to paste into FB (it fails); if I then go to a text document, the copied text is still on the clipboard (and can be pasted after that).

When I switch to IE i can paste to FB ok and also Opera but not in FF for some strange reason. I have FF 3.0.1 totally weird.
