Hello,

every time i open my firefox, the settings have change. Specifically, the startup page: it starts up where i left off, even tough i don't want this. I want google as my startup page, and it keeps changing this. I already updated to the latest version, but this problem still continues. Please help!

Kind regards, Brooke Weise

If you have software like Advanced SystemCare that might reset some files to older versions to protect these files against changes then check the settings or uninstall this software.

Looks like you've got some wonky extensions there.

  • Remove the extensions MediaPlayerplus and Furtunitas by going to The image "new fx menu" does not exist. > Add-ons > Extensions)
  • You might also want to download ADWCleaner to clean up the remnants of the extensions.

From your System Details, it looks like user.js is currently active in Firefox. The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.

You can delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release. You can get to the profile folder below:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory > Show Folder

or

  • Go to about:support and click Show Folder next to Profile Directory.

Hey Brookweise, follow these steps :

goto open menu->option->general->under startup section

now apply "www.google.com"(without quotes) on Home Page and click OK .

this will fix your startup with google page :)

note: set SHOW MY HOME PAGE at "When Firefox Starts" .

I think the saved settings in user.js overrides your settings

Here is what you can do

Note that there shouldn't be numbered sessionstore-##.js files in the Firefox profile folder, so best is to remove all those numbered files.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

You can check for problems with preferences.

Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
