How do I change encoding? Site specific would be nice

The Character Encoding menu choice under View is greyed out. How can I activate it? I would like a site-specific option but anything is better than nothing.

That shouldn't be the case, unless you're viewing something that isn't a web page, like a standalone image, video or audio file. If you are indeed viewing a web page, check if the problem goes away when you restart Firefox with add-ons disabled.

You don't normally need to change the encoding manually. It's the job of the web site to specify the correct encoding. You can try the following add-on if you've run into sites with an incorrect encoding and the owners refuse to fix them.
