Hi I've just installed Firefox. Two problems seem linked to privacy settings. With privacy set to "never remember history" I can access my gmail acccount but loose any pinned tabs when Firefox is restarted.

With privacy set to "remember history" I cannot access my gmail account but the pinned tabs are still there when Firefox is opened the next time.

A seperate issue is sites using Flash Player will not play videos. I have the latest versions of Flash Player and Silverlight.

My system uses Norton Internet Security and its toolbar is installed in Firefox.

Thanks for any suggestions

Clear the cache and the cookies from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If clearing cookies doesn't work then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies is corrupted.

Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":

  • do not clear the Browsing History (you lose pinned tabs)
  • do not clear the Cookies
  • do not clear the Site Preferences

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception.
