Webroot Security must be turned off to open Fire Fox. Just updated Webroot and now have to turn off its firewall setting to open Fire Fox and Internet Explorer - anyone know why? Followed Webroot help guide and added both as trusted sites to no avail.

Webroot Security Essentials (firewall, antispam, virus protection) appears to be blocking internet connections for both Fire Fox and IE. Used their help guide (not very computer savy) that suggested I add the URLs as trusted sites but that didn't help at all. I've had problems with Webroot with VPN connection for work and have to do the same thing; adding in the URL and network PC address did not work as they suggested. I have McAfee through my internet provider so am to the point where I am considering just doing away with Webroot altogether - I do not find their support staff very helpful, probably because I don't speak "computerese" - you will not mistake me for one of the geek squad!

I've been using Webroot products for over three years now. Something happened overnight (Feb 28-Mar 1) and I can no longer browse the web with IE or FF.

I found that it's a name resolution issue. I cannot ping anything by host name while the Webroot firewall is enabled. Once I allow all traffic, DNS queries work as they should and so do my browsers.

I also updated to the latest release of version 7 to no avail. I tried removing FF from the 'allowed' list and added it back in but that made no difference either. I submitted a ticket with Webroot tonight and I'll get back to you when I have a resolution.

Within the firewall tab of Webroot Internet Essentials there is a list of applications that are either allowed or blocked. Unfortunately you have to turn back on filtering to see the list. More unfortunately you have to scroll left and right in the list of applications, find the ones that are blocked and allow them one-by-one to see if it addresses the problem.

In my list, one of the applications blocked was 'svchost.exe'. I chose to allow that application and can now browse the web with IE and FF.
