Firefox 3.6.8 still having problems loading heavy Flash websites
Upgraded to latest 3.6.8 Firefox version and noting it is still having issues loading heavy flash websites. Takes 5 to 6 times longer to load a webpage if there is Flash on it. I do have the latest version of Flash installed according to Adobe's website so that's not the culprit. Will be uninstalling this latest version and rolling back to the copy of 3.6.3 version I kept which worked great with all flash websites. Waiting for the problem to get fixed before I update again...hoping they can fix this. I noticed this problem starting back with version 3.6.6 and still hasn't been fixed with 3.6.8...

Flash stopped working for me since I updated to 3.6.6
I can hear audio, and if I blindly poke around for where I think a control button is, the video eventually pops up.
Flash seems to be working just fine with Safari 5 and Chrome 5.0.375.99.
I installed update 3.6.8 and the flash plugin which it recommended. Now firefox freezes completely when I open flash games (like kongregate.com).
Not only is this problem still present, but it has become substantially worse with this release. It almost makes Firefox unusable. I have been using Firefox as an alternative to IE, which I hate with a passion, but this is just horrible. Maybe I'll give chrome another try. At any rate, I have a hard time believing that these problems were not known prior to this release, Mozilla is getting sloppy.
Out of curiosity I tried IE 6 and chrome - IE6 crashed, chrome was slower. I looked at my IE connection and noted 320 packets to load the page. Not sure how many connections are being made.
I also noted that all flash and images are coming from images.tsn.ca I assume the flash data is also coming from images.tsn.ca with the normal 2 connects limit. The swf will be downloading from the html page and the images and the flash needs to wait for a connection until what is being downloaded has finished.
I may be wrong but for me the site is best viewed by Firefox.
I am eagerly awaiting html5 as the solution to sites that need heavy animation.
I am also working with Windows 7 and 3.6.8(and a huge list of plugins) and I can't tell about any Problems with those sites. It could be just a problem with either your hardware or maybe your internet connection - don't forget that sites using so much flash need both ressources heavily! Also the site you mentioned does not only use too much flash - it's around 1.4 MB big and took me about 9 seconds(with adblock plus 1.2MB and 6 seconds) until it was finally loaded - so it's just really bad web design... And it's not the only site having this problem, good web design is a rare good ;)
Oh and Internet Explorer and Chrome also might just be faster because you can't use Plugins. And I spottet the same problems you had in all the none-Firefox browsers on sites with much advertisement, so this might not be a FF problem only.
Maybe you might just give Adblock plus a try - if it works you know what the problem is, if not, you should try to check your FF addons for problems
Maik, Good note about the plug-ins ... people come to me with systems they say are slow. They have a ton of plug-in and when they are removed the performance goes up! I don't have many plugins because of that reason.
It would be an improvement if plug-in do not make demands on the system while web pages are being loaded.
I only had Fire Bug and Java Console installed. Today I installed Adblock Plus and Flashblock because I couldn't open flash sites.
My laptop was bought one month ago and last weekend I didn't recognize any problems.
So don't argue and start searching a solution.
(By the way the second post of "Disappointed FFFan" was another one.)
I am not a firefox evangelist ... I just can not blame firefox for problems like my battery of the computer is not lasting as long - or sound / video in flash are not working. The specific reason is that firefox does not contain any bios routines to read the keyboard and nor is a flash rendering of video/audio part of firefox. ... if the sound or video do not render in a html5 video tag that is because of the browser.
@Disappointed FFFan only firebug? From all the plugins I have installed this is maybe the one that's using the most ressources - that's the reason I'd recommend everyone to only enable it if you really need it
I have used Firefox since v 2 with W95, W98, then ME and now Vista Business but 3.6.8 is hopeless. Websites not loading, freezing and is the first time I have felt that you have gone for too much gimmikry and not enough getting the basics right. This is the worst attempted browsing experience I have had since mid 1990's-whilst writing this, the BBC website has still not even loaded!
Youtube videos are unviewable. I've set the sessionstore to 300000 and disabled the plug-in container (it hangs too!!) What give? Moz is getting very sloppy. All the damn add-ons are untested or hosted off site. What gives?? We need a fix quickly.
I have problems with firefox 3.6.8 freezing when loading some sites with flash.
when I disable flash plug-in it works better
ex : www.tsr.ch
Yup... 3.6.8 KILLED all video.. World's Best Broswer???? Everything still works perfectly on Safari, and that is where I will be staying. Firefox has been buggy since day one, EVERY version.
The same thing happened to me. I tried uninstalling 3.6.8 and reinstalling it, and that fixed it.
@Asa maybe you just got some interferences with your system configuration/some programs. But instead of complaining you could give the developers useful information to solve the problems.
Or it could just be a problem with the updates - reinstalling solved @Greencat's problems...
Now I have to use two web browsers, the firefox as a basis, and I had to give the chrome a change for youtube and others that freezes with firefox.
oops ... the chrome a CHANCE... ;-) Anyway... today FF sucks.
It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode (don't forget to select Disable all add-ons when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and this one for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.
The problem affects this page: [ http://gronnbil.no/biler] The strange thing is that whenever I load the page with Firebug activated for this page, it renders the Flash instantly. But hardly ever (it does happen now and then, but mostly not) when I'm not using Firebug. I have tried disabling all plugins, running in Safe Mode, but it didn't help. I use Mac OS X 10.6.4 64-bit, FF 3.6.8. Ideas, anyone?
Still have problems with FIREFOX...
its ok sometimes....but sometimes it freeze, everytime if i have 5+ tabs opened... even if there is a litle flash ad or something... :S
i`m not gona use firefox until update (i have 3.6.8)
