Hi everyone,

Using Thunderbird with Lighting and Provider add-ons. When I try to create an event the start and end times are in 24 hour format. However; the preferences and calendar day view are all in 12 hour format.

I'm running iOS X El Captain 10.11.4, Thunderbird is up to date, and my systems language and location is set to English/US

Thanks for any help anyone can provide! Although it is a little OCD of me and I can deal, since the only time its in 24 hour mode is when Im creating a new event, Id still like to see if I can resolve this little issue!

I'm using Windows Vista, but the Time preferences I set in 'Regional and language options', which set computer time etc, they dictate what is seen in Thunderbird and Lightning Calendar and Events.

If I change to 24 or 12 hour clock it is reflected in events and calendar.

see if you can get a reset: Close Thunderbird. Made changes for computer Time to eg: 24 hour and then restart Thunderbird and check what is seen in calandar and events. Then close Thunderbird, change back to 12 hour clock abd restart Thunderbird.

I have located this bug report.

Perhaps you could add a comment that it has not been resolved in: Offer your OS info and version of thunderbird and version of Lightning. Remember Bugzilla is for offering explicit info so keep comments relevant. You would need to create an account to make comments. You can also vote for the bug.

In the bug report someone mentions two places to set time and wondered if there was a conflict. Check through this info:

Toad-Hall,

Thanks for the replies! I forgot to mention in my original post that I did change my system to 24 hour, which resulted in ALL calendar times being 24 hour. When I switched back to 12 hour, the calendar switched back to 12 hour EXCEPT when adding a new event.

Thanks for the 2 outside links, I'll be sure to create and account and comment with my system info. Definetly seems like a bug issue though, being that the calender knows its in 12 hour mode and only has this issue when adding an event.

Thanks for your help!

I hate 12hr/am/pm notation, along with the names of days in dates.  ;-) Try collating and comparing lists of events from separate systems where they use different time/date formats. You have to parse the am/pm marker and make adjustments; 12 noon (is that 12 am or 12 pm?) comes before 1 pm so you have to create exceptions for numerical ordering based on the am/pm status. You can do this in a spreadsheet or a programming language but you generally have to dissect non-standard formats to be able to make sense of the data trapped inside them.

All of my dates use the very OCD-looking yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss format and they parse and sort with very little effort.

Bus, rail and airline timetables all use 24 hr notation, don't they? Why is there such widespread opposition to 24 hr notation in our day-to-day usage? Discuss.  ;-)

I hadn't noticed your issue myself, because I'm using 24 hr notation exclusively. Maybe I'll have a play with the calendar, but of course I'll be incensed if it forces 12 hr notation on me.
