(also posted in Privacy and Security settings category).

I'm currently using Firefox 17.0.1 with Windows 7 (updates are current).

The problems with YouTube began several weeks ago. First, YouTube stopped accepting my uploads when I use Firefox. I don't have this problem with IE. I posted this problem on YouTube, but the only reply I got said s/he never heard of this.

Now I notice that YouTube no longer recognizes me until I sign in with Firefox, even when I close FF and immediately re-launch it. I don't have this problem with IE.

Hi,

You can try to Clear Now the Cache, Site Preferences , and Cookies with Time range to clear set to Everything via Tools (Alt + T) > Clear Recent History.

If the problem persists, please reset Firefox and check.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

If you would like to save a listing of the add-ons, changed preferences/settings etc. to quickly replicate the previous profile, please Copy all to clipboard (on the left of the reset button), and paste it into Office Excel, or OpenOffice/LibreOffice Calc, or notepad. However, it would be a good idea to check for the existence of the issue immediately after the reset.

Websites remembering you and automatically log you on is stored in a cookie.

  • Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.

Do not use Clear Recent History to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"

Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

If clearing cookies doesn't work then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies is corrupted.

Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

The Reset worked! YouTube is "recognizing" me again and is accepting my uploads. Thank you!
