I have Firefox 5.0.1 the latest Firefox Sync add-on and am running it on Windows XP SP3. I have 2 main issues. 1) Sync options do not work. You can access them but they do not allow you to create a new login or use an existing one. The other issue is that I cannot save password for websites even when I select this option. Help is appreciated.

Hi!

The add-on is not needed anymore. Firefox 5 has the Sync functionality already built in. In general there should be no problem having the add-on installed, but some users report mis-behaviors related to having the add-on and the built-in version working together.

Try to uninstall it and let see if that helps.

Nothing. Tried doing so and the options just do nothing. I hit the next button after providing my login info and encryption key and it does nothing. I try creating a new one and the same thing.

Last thing I can think of is re-installing everything but I believe I tried this at home and to no avail.

Attached is the screen I get when trying to create a new login. It is supposed to provide a sync key but it comes up blank.

Hi,

I accidentally removed the picture before I was able to see it. Can you upload it again? Sorry about it.

Thanks,

Have you tried to save it?

Again, are you trying to set up Sync in your computer with a new account? Are you trying to create a new account?

If you save the file and the Sync Key is there, it's perfectly fine. You would need the Sync Key for future reference, it's not needed in the activation process. But just make sure that you keep a copy. Also, you can check it afterward, once the set up is complete.

Take a look to this article: How do I set up Sync on my computer?

Also, why are you trying to create a new login? And what's the error while trying to use an existing one?

I'm trying to understand what are you trying to achieve.

I am simply trying to make things work again. Everything worked perfectly before the most recent update. As soon as I ran it, it was lights off as far as syncing functions go.

Again:

1- Cannot sync anything - Before I could switch computers and all data would automatically update when I provided sync key. Now it does not as there is nothing synced anymore. In fact, it doesn't even accept my sync login info anymore.

2- Cannot create a new sync login - Assuming that my login data was for some odd resaon corrupted or hacked, I tried creating a new login with different e-mail and password on my main computer (where nothing shows to be synced anymore). But when I try creating one, nothing happens (it literally just does nothing). No new encryption key is generated, nothing.

This is frustrating. About to go back to crummy Chrome just cuz all I need to do on that browser is provide an e-mail and password and it auto syncs everything. Not as safe, but at least it works.

Thanks.

Hi,

So you are trying to sync computers. And from the screenshot I see that you are already logged in. From what you are saying it seems that your data is corrupted, so I will recommend to follow the steps described here: Replace your Sync information

In your main computer, are you following the steps I provided in the previous post? Can you let me know where exactly (step number) are you having issues? Make sure that you are following the exact steps.

I'm trying to replicate your issue.

Will try, else I will just let be. Thank you for the assist.

Just checked and I noticed that I don't have this option. All I get is the screen that asks you to "Set Up FireFox Sync" (which again, does not work when I try to do).

Hi again,

So, your account is not set up. You need to go through the steps I pointed in the previous answer: How do I set up Sync on my computer?

If this doesn't work because you don't have the Sync Key, take a look to this article: I've lost my Sync Key, what can I do?

It should work fine.

As I had advised in "my" previous answer, the solution provided for setting up a new account does not work. I cannot go beyond the first screenshot provided in the instructions page you provided (I click "Set Up Firefox Sync" and it does nothing).

As for the "I've lost my Sync Key, what can I do?" solution, it does not apply because, again, there is no sync account set on my Firefox nor does it allow me to add a new one.

Thanks for the assist but this has been time consuming for both of us and in all honestly not worth the hassle.

Regards,

I understand that by "do nothing" you mean that literally it stays in the same page and nothing new loads or no message appears. If so, I presume that an add-on is messing around with your setting.
