When I download something, it downloads but I have to click on it to get it to open and install on my computer. I did a new install of windows and it started doing this when I installed Firefox. I used to automatically start the install.

When I download a program, example Java, it will not open to the run or save box. I have to click on the link in the download box of Firefox. I had to do a new install and when I did, Firefox started doing this. It was fine before I had to do the Windows install.

You can not run executable files from the download dialog, this is a security measure.

If you want to bypass this security measure you can use the OpenDownload add-on. This add-on has not been updated for a couple of years, but somebody has made a newer version, also called OpenDownload, but this version has not yet been reviewed by Mozilla.
