I open firefox and open two or three tabs. Than I check task manager, because my computer is running warm and I find firefox has opened 12 to 20 tabs. I have tried every suggested fix for this problem with no resolution. Can you provide a fix for this problem. I have the same problem on my Lenovo laptop as well.

Thank you, Michael Rozelle [edited email from public]

What you see are likely not tabs opened in Firefox, but merely processes opened by Firefox to allocate space for future tabs. From the troubleshooting data you supplied:

Processes:
 remoteTypes: {prealloc: 2, rdd: 1, extension: 1, gpu: 1, webIsolated: 1, privilegedabout: 1, socket: 1, utility_jSOracle: 1}
 maxWebContentProcesses: 8

It is quite normal to see more Firefox processes running.

  • process for the main Firefox thread (user interface)
  • one or more content processes
    you see more content processes when Fission is enabled
  • process for the compositor thread
  • process for extensions
  • process for WebRender when this feature is enabled

You can find the current multi-process state on the Troubleshooting Information page (about:support).

  • "Help -> Troubleshooting Information"
    "Application Basics":
    Multiprocess Windows and Fission Windows
    "Remote Processes" (Web Content)

You can check the about:memory and about:processes pages for info about all processes. There are several toolkit.aboutProcesses prefs in about:config to show more info. See also the about:unloads page for info about the tabs.
