Firefox has lost my bookmarks and bookmarks toolbar after updating to 145.0 this morning.
I updated Firefox to 145.0 this morning, and after Firefox had restarted, it had lost all bookmarks and the bookmarks toolbar. I have spent all day following links to correct the problem and got nowhere. I have restarted Windows and Firefox countless times - no change. I've even tried reinstalling Firefox over the existing version. If I go to bookmarks > manage bookmarks > restore and backup, sometimes that will load, others not. When it does load, it fails to find a file to restore from. 10 years of bookmarks, links & research vanished.
Can someone please provide a solution (preferably in Layman's terms) to this??

I think I have now solved this. Firefox had created an 'Old Firefox data' folder on my desktop, and I hadn't spotted it. I went into my current profile folder and renamed favicons.sqlite & places.sqlite to .old. I deleted the other favicons and places files, and then copied favicons.sqlite and places.sqlite from the backup folder into my current folder profille. I now seem to have my favourites back and all seems OK.
This was the error message I seemed to be getting, and it was this help page that helped me solve it:

If Firefox starts up after an update without your bookmarks and other settings, check whether your data is available in a different profile:
Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it. The About Profiles page will open. This page should list at least one profile and could list many.
The profile that Firefox is currently using will show:
This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.
Please do not delete anything here; don't use any Remove buttons.
Do you have another profile named default or default-longnumber listed on this page? If so, you can check whether it is the one you were using recently by clicking its Launch profile in new browser button.
If it isn't what you want, simply close that new window.
If it IS what you want, click the Set as default profile button for that profile on the about:profiles page. Firefox will use it automatically at the next startup.
For more information see Recover user data missing after Firefox update.
Note: If your bookmarks are not available in another Firefox profile, see Recover lost or missing Bookmarks for other solutions.
I have spent most of the day trying to solve this with the Mozilla links, including the ones you mentioned. I have also looked at the profiles page. The default profile earlier today looked Ok, but there was another with a very dubious name that I didn't recognise. I know I shouldn't have, but too late now - I deleted it. There is now only one profile that is called Profile: Default-release.
All was fine until I did the firefox update this morning. Reading through various forums, it looks like this is not the first time this has happened.
