Problema solucionado. Al añadir un idioma aparecen dos posibilidades: añadir un diccionario o añadir un paquete de idioma. Yo seleccionaba uno de estos últimos pues pensaba que además de ser más pequeños, también cubrían la función de spell checking. Luego he visto que sólo instalar un diccionario, se baja correctamente y funciona sin problemas.
