what settings have i screwed up on youtube.; always have to watch full advertisement and never displays skip icon to move into subject.

Firefox browser has no control on how or what YouTube does with their site and site ads. You should contact YouTube support about this.

youtube has nothing to do with Firefox directly - your problem could be any one of a multitude of things - start by trying to disable any ad blocker. Look through existing extensions - >menu>tools>addons to see if you can figure out any of the many that may help (put youtube in the search box). Google the problem - google owns youtube. Clear your cache and cookies relating to youtube - come back if you need help there.
