can't keep Firefox settings on computer

every time I close Firefox, I lose all my customizations and settings. even after going thru sync etc. It seems to recognize my computer as "new" every time and when I look at my sync'd devices, I can see my computer with its tabs from my prior session.

how to I merge these devices or fix this problem? this is becoming a huge waste of time for me as much as I like Firefox and what its trying to do

This sometimes happens. Mac users get a temporary install instead of a permanent installation in the Apps folder, or the dock icon leads to the wrong Firefox installation. Could you review the steps in the following article to make sure you get a permanent installation and trash the DMG file when you're done? Let us know whether that works:
